Racism by Stephen T. Jones with video from Chris Rock

Today I felt compelled to write this sub-chapter as an action of PEACE because I believe that most of us just don’t get racism. I also believe there is a need for more raw communication about this topic to acknowledge where we truly are.

I believe if more of us do this we will be able to evolve our greater community and extend to the rest of the world. When I was in college my friend tried to introduce me to a girl and she said in one sentence “I hate black people because a black man killed my father.” My initial action was to tell her that I did not kill her father so why hate me.” Immediately without action I realized that my logic would not change her conviction because logic it rarely does. After asking myself several questions I asked myself, if someone killed my father would l hate them? and immediately my anger turned into compassion for her. This is a young lady that lost her father and I know now that is was part of her healing process. And as I am writing this I just discovered that this was part of my healing process of healing my repressed anger. If we want to take the road less traveled and deal with what is real we need to…We must be brave enough to feel all of our emotions. I have learned on several occasions that in order to turn my anger into compassion I must avoid trying to make my experience everybody else’s experience. Just being around us people are learning from our experience and it is always better when it is their choice to learn what they need to learn.

We have lots of definitions for racism but 9 times out of 10 this only adds fuel to the fire. In order to let go of racism it is important to not always snuff out the fire and/or add fuel to our flames. For me I do see race, I do make stereotypes and I do allow myself to hate in order to let go. Is it that simple? Of course not it has taking years to get to this point but I do know that every little bit of hate I let go of in my life brings me a ton of peace.

This sub-chapter is designed for you to read and not just take my word for it…Get in touch with your thoughts and feeling combined with your experience to evolve your own beliefs. I believe that this sub-chapter is just starting and I hope we can turn this into something that we all can learn from.
