Open a world of IMAGINATION by Stephen T. Jones

Just a small tweak of the current education system is making a world of difference…

As adults most of us have lost the need or the know how to tap into our imagination. I think it is even deeper than that we have lost sight of the importance of making imagination part of our lives. I believe we spend most of our time editing instead of living our lives we are wasting most of our energy editing life. You could even say EDIT is an acronym for Entering Dreams Into Trash. In the last 3 months I have extremely reduced the need to edit myself, and it has made me 5 times more efficient. Instead of  us  spending most of our lives anticipating obstacles and exhausting energy of how to get around them. We could gain leverage by focusing the most energy in the initial idea by just doing it. When I first started doing this I noticed that sharing incomplete ideas, presentations and sub-chapters made me additionally exposed to criticism. In the past I would have went out of my way to avoid any additional criticism. I noticed that the more I use this more I have started to welcome criticism and even though I don’t love it I see it as a good thing. Think of it like you are outsourcing your criticism, which will create a better relationship with you and you. Just think of how much most of us hate critics and just think of the freedom we could create by reducing criticism of ourselves. I have held many grudges on many people consciously for year base on a little criticism here and a little there. If I had to make a choice I would rather hold a grudge with someone else that myself. Once you get this you may start to welcome criticism with open arms. If you stay present you will notice that in every criticism there is a key to improve what we are doing even unproductive criticism can help you let go of anger.

For those of us that have jobs that our primary focus is editing this also works with a little customization. Just remember that the more you edit yourself and others you run the risk of stepping on creativity. Also remember that having critics motivates some people but that doesn’t mean that more is better. Here is a real time example of the thought process that goes on in my head when I am bouncing between editing and the freedom of imagination. “I am sitting in a coffee shop and I think I should write a sub-chapter about emotions and I grab my note book and start writing immediately. I don’t think about statistics what I am gonna add or not I just start to create, when starting out the less structure that I use the better. I use to think that I never got writer’s blog until I really started to learn my potential for being able to come up with an idea from scratch and have it up on the blog with little or now editing. I know that I make lots of grammar mistakes and that this looks bad to certain people but I also know that worry about this gets in the way of my creativity. Also when it really comes down to it I could pay someone to edit my work after it is done and they just make the changes without trying to explain to me what I did wrong I know that they are trying to help but this mostly leaves me uninspired. Okay did you just see how my mind works that outsourcing this whole process it helps me to reduce unnecessary conflict the reason that I said unnecessary is some conflict absolutely has no benefits. This way I can deal with the task at hand and each obstacle that is on my immediate path and not going out of my way to learn stuff that does not serve me currently or in the near future.

Letting go of the editing is hard at first and you may be surprised how soon you grow to like it. We will always need critics it is part of being human, in the mean time ask your self what am I gonna do with all this FREE time?
